Bozendo_ Movimento Orgânico_Butoh por Emilie Allera e Paulina Almeida_França e Portugal

O Bozendo é uma arte marcial praticada com um "bo", um pau de 1,50m.  Bozendo significa, literalmente, "a via do zen pela practica do pau".   De origem chinesa e com mais de 25 séculos de existência, consiste num conjunto de manipulações com técnicas de evasões, paradas, desarmamentos...  O objectivo do Bozendo nao é a competição, mas a mestria do corpo pela mestria do "bo", e a perfeição do movimento na harmonia e na não agressividade.  

Esta oficina integra uma base de movimento orgânico que cruza o butoh e a dança vocal e resultará na apresentação pública de um exercício final.

Uma sensibilização, sem sobrecarga de informação que não seja a sensitiva, sugerindo imagens e formas rituais multi-culturais que nos permitam experimentar o movimento de uma forma orgânica e criativa. Consideramos que no espírito do ensinamento, não faz falta que algo seja apreendido de forma consciente, por isso, este trabalho identifica-se com o despertar, o re-descobrir, o reinventar dos universos livres da imaginação, através de um percurso lúdico pelo corpo que fala, o corpo que pede, o corpo que sabe...

Durante a oficina, vamos ajudar-te a copiar e alterar os padrões que te interessam , assim como podes fazer os teus desenhos. Se costuras o pano em "casa" podemos ajudar-te a costurar as partes difíceis também. De qualquer forma cada projecto vem com instruções próprias.

Objetivo do workshop é desenvolver o teu design e carga individual.

Oficina de contos colaborativos por Marie Jolin Köster

Nesta oficina os participantes são convidados a explorar a arte da narração em colaboração, no espaço de luz e sombra estabelecidos. A oficina colaborativa cria histórias com base (inquérito automático) etnográfica.

Uma caixa de diálogo entre diferentes perspectivas, vozes múltiplas falar em outras línguas, sotaques, ritmos e registos criará um espaço da negociação de conceitos e experiências que são significativos para nós.

A narrativa não linear e linguagem metafórica bem como a utilização de imagens, objetos sonoros, e o corpo abrir múltiplas perspectivas da arte de narração, que iremos estudar em conjunto como um grupo.

Este passa-se por todo o espaço Contagiarte, como acto simples de pôr o máximo de pessoas possível a lançar objectos ao ar. Os objectos, bolas, flores, roupas, utensílios de cozinha, balões ou cadeiras.

Rhythms of Resistance (RoR) é uma rede internacional de bandas de samba que partilham uma orientação política comum e que fazem uso do samba em manifestações e iniciativas de acção directa.

Esta oficina de percussão tem como objectivo iniciar uma banda de samba no Porto. Ritmos de resistência é explicitamente rede política que apoia manifestações e acções políticas sobre questões ambientais, sociais, de genero e outros.

A adesão não depende habilidades musicais, mas sim políticos e de compromisso social.

O palhaço é um ser único. Não por ser "divertido" porém ele mostra-se. Compartilha o que ele acredita, ou quer sentir. E desde que o palhaço diz sim a uma situação , se bem que não é absolutamente certo de lidar com ela, ou tem medo da morte, ele vai encontrar, através de sua singularidade, única lógica (palhaço) soluções. A identificação do homem com as coisas, criar uma base de comédia. O palhaço tem um espelho para o mundo e pede ao público para se ver no espelho.

O reconhecimento de mim mesmo no espelho do palhaço é o que gera o riso.

Gentrification describes the development of an urban neighbourhood from having a poor, socially and culturally mixed population to being a place for hip middle-class yuppies. Normally it starts with a wave of young people looking for a cheap place to live - students, artists, political activists. As they populate poor and run down neighbourhoods, these become more fashionable. Cultural activities and night life boost, more and more people want to move there. Then the rent go up and only rich people can afford to live there. What was once an experimentation field for young artists and activist becomes an established space for institutional culture and commerce.

Not only the neighbourhoods become gentrified, but also the people who live there. The once young and poor students get jobs, children, cars and husbands or wives. Street artists start to exhibit their art in galleries. As they start to earn money, they don't move to another area of town, but rather stay and become the gentrified population. The performance "Gentrified" deals with exactly these patterns: The personal development of the protagonist reflects the gentrification within. From throwing stones on anti-globalisation protests to working for an established NGO. He commits all crimes against the environment

and social justice that he was fighting against, while he thinks, he is still fighting for the good cause. This is an artistic research project to further develop "Gentrified", that I performed in Contagiarte in April 2010. I will work on the

dilemma between trying to take responsibility and not being part of the establishment. I will also look at neighbourhoods and developments in Porto to incorporate local issues.

Drawings, nurtured by the artists Anke Kalk and Marie-Jolin Köster, will be projected onto one exterior wall of contagiarte. The emerging picture of light will be copied onto the wall leaving a permanent marker of a transient space-time-act.

A dialogic movement of embedding will take place, as the projection of the artists utopic imagery will extend the walls' unidimensional surface into a three-dimensional space:

The landscape will be found on trespassers' bodies, while at the same time their presence in the real space will penetrate the utopic scenery as people, objects, cut-outs and materials exposed to the light find themselves as shadows on the wall.

A seductive play with binary oppositions that urges to construct a third space between//

here and there, transient and permanent, inside and outside, presence and absence, virtual utopia and a concrete wall.

Tren Go! Sound System - guitar, feedback, Effects

It is a musical project that explores mainly the territories of dub, blues, experimental and psychedelic by electric guitar, manipulation of its natural sound and recording real-time loops.
Integrated in the CARGOTOPIA project seeks to share his sound world with some of the north of Portugal recent film accomplished authors in a form of film-concert. A live presentation of the project will have the nature of a concert film, which may be outdoors or inside a space. The performance will last with the movie's soundtrack being made live. The musician had stood beside the projection screen. The public will have freedom to sit near or away from the screen since it does not obstruct the vision to another spectator or obstruct the performance of the musician.

The performance is based on Clarisse Lispector’s novel “A hora da estrela” (1977), the novel's main symbol is the death: the living death – not just the biological death but the death that makes our hearts beat when we dance, when we love, when we laugh sing and scream – when there is social flux, movement.

It is composed by using the language of clown, physical theatre and butoh on an integration of the body in image and senses.

It contains in it the identity of south American women solitude and difficulties to rise and integration society when coming from poor social life background.

This performance is an approximation focused on the dialog between reality and delirium. Is about the solitude that (even with a research for social) we are all given to.

The CARGOcasa artists’ residence projected for the year 2010 in Oporto city, will be reserved for artists, pedagogs, festival programers, sea-far people, art historians, philosophers, film-makers and writers who have a precise project that is in harmony with the vision of the CARGOTOPIA project but independent from the CARGOTOPIA festival.

This is the 1st of a cycle of residences planned from the year 2010 until 2012.

The elaboration of the CARGOTOPIA festival program will be one of the main criterion for invitation of the residents selected by CARGOcasa and CONTAGIARTE home artistic's directors Paulina Almeida, Ana Moraes and Ana Saltão, together with a working group , with the presence of several artists.

  Concept

  In an entirely new and original way, these residences situated on CONTAGIARTE house – in a unique environment propitious to creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration – are defined as “CARGOcasa project residences”, which means that they no longer involve just one artist but rather a veritable project that can regroup several.   A working group will be set up to undertake a multidisciplinary creative project. From the history of the Oporto city site and the CONTAGIARTE house, it is evident that the entire building constitutes a privileged location for research and reflection. As a prolongation of the CARGOTOPIA festival, the residences will be committed to developing in a privileged but not exclusive manner projects that question and involve the notion of social, ecology, nautical, cargo, fair trade art defined as a subject of perpetual surprise. The residence in the CONTAGIARTE house, the quality of the available spaces, and the force of the surrounding urban scape offer exceptional conditions for residence.   The structure is perfectly conceived for a period of socialization, where we aim to simulate life on board of a boat. The artists will have at their disposal lodgings and presentation rooms open to public. With 10 days of residence with persons of their choice to work on a previously untouched project (an exhibit, book, forum, work of art). This process allows projects developing that are born by crossing different disciplines, creating a dynamic and heterogeneity within the very residences. This concept of residences revolves around the idea of gathering a group of artists who would otherwise not have the opportunity to work together on a common project.

The program of these residences is decidedly orientated towards what is current in national and international artistic creation. Each project will be composed around two or three resident artists for a period of 10 days. Two or three artists will be present steadily on the CONTAGIARTE house, but this group may also include others whose intervention will be fundamental for the project. The residence will thus function in accordance with a principle of rotation of the participants in a common project.  

Modes of selection 

 The choice of the project is made by the artistic directors together with the working group.  The selection of the residents will be made according to criteria of quality, involvement and professionalism.

-Emerging artists , whom residence can help to develop professionally;

-Artists with an established national or international reputation for whom a change of location can offer a new outlook.

Each project will have the benefit of a basic living suport as well as a production allowance. The artists will be received during 10 days and be able to present the result of their art work at the CARGOTOPIA festival.

The different objectives of the artists’ residence   

For a cultural establishment like CARGOTOPIA festival and CONTAGIARTE house, starting a residence project has two objectives: at the same time the concern to valorize a natural and cultural heritage, and to favor and support contemporary artistic creation.   These CARGOcasa residences on CONTAGIARTE house aim above all to be a place for carrying out and producing original projects, a place for research and reflection. The CARGOcasa is not concerned with setting a policy of acquiring works which will be created during the artists’ stay, but aims rather to become an important platform for artistic production within a multidisciplinary perspective, a living space for meetings and research – a “center of Utopias”.   The conductor thread of this cultural and artistic development project of the CARGOTOPIA platform is the absolute conviction that by concentrating on one sole project, that project is killed. If on the other hand it is integrated into a larger project with new and different dimensions, then it will enjoy a full life.   CONTAGIARTE house is known as a place for contemporary and alternative art. This double image must be safeguarded within a coherent and legitimate positioning, and with choices selected with vigorous criteria. But this should be done not by overbidding the attractive capacity that house has, with its traditional portuguese- architectural heritage, but rather by endeavoring to continue and to progress with what is new.
